HOW TO MAKE A DAFT PUNK HELMET

First of all, let me tell you that this is not going to be a tutorial on using the Pepakura program. OK, the things that you will need to have are shown below. Oh yah, visit http://youtube.com/roboticshowoff for info or just to contact me.

THINGS YOU NEED:

1. Baseball Helmet ( I prefer NIKE )

2. Cardboard

3. Scissors

4. Scotch Tape

5. Duct Tape

6. Soda Cans

7. Plastic Sheet ( Thin )

8. Tint

9. Bondo

10. Sander ( Paper, Block, Electric )

11. Primer

12. Silver Spray Paint

WHERE CAN I GET THIS STUFF?

Baseball Helmet = Big 5, Dick's, Chick's, Sports Chalet

Cardboard = Any extra box, Neighbors

Scissors = Michaels, JO Anns

Scotch Tape = Michaels, JO Anns

Duct Tape = Home Depot, Ace Hardware, Target

Soda Cans = Coke

Plastic Sheet = Hobby Shop

Tint = Pepboys

Bondo = Home Depot, Ace Hardware

Sander = Home Depot, Ace Hardware

Primer = Home Depot, Paint Shop

Silver Paint = Home Depot, Paint Shop

Now remember, these are just IDEAS of places to go!

OK, let's get to the actual instructions! I know what your thinking, FINALLY!

HERE WE GO!!

1. Get the cardboard and cut them into the shapes provided here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/25771859@N04/2627766850/

Here's an OK layout I made: http://iroboticshowoff.com/helmet-jaw-layout.jpg

You'll want to use scotch tape. Don't use duct tape 'cause if you do, it might show if you get to a certain point during sanding.

2. After you connect the three pieces together to make the jaw, you'll want to connect the jaw to the baseball helmet. This time, you should use duct tape because scotch tape is not as strong as cardboard. So use duct tape. Shown here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/25771859@N04/2627766942/in/set-72157605917719865/

3. Now, you have to get the part that will hold the the lens to the jaw. This part could take a while. All you do is make the rectangular shapes, duct tape them together, then cut! Shown here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/25771859@N04/2626949149/in/set-72157605917719865/

Now remember, before we continue, you will have to trim the corners & sides of the lens holder. So it should look curved.

4. Did you trim it? OK, now get the soda cans and cut either 1 inch or one and a half inches from the bottom. Also, I prefer Coke Cherry because the letters have good legnths apart from the other letter. I used Coke Cherry and I cut from the right side of the H.  Shown here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/25771859@N04/2626949233/in/set-72157605917719865/

5. ( OPTIONAL ) If you want, put the ears on to see how they look so far! Shown here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/25771859@N04/2627767194/in/set-72157605917719865/

If you do this, don't put the lens on.

6. OK, if you did the last step with putting the cans on, it's time to remove them. Yep, it's that time of building, bondo time!!

Make sure to do it not to thin so you don't go through the cardboard, but not too thick so it's not too heavy. Shown here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/25771859@N04/2626949397/in/set-72157605917719865/

7. Now, you have to sand! Remember, not too thin. I don't have a picture at the moment. Everyone knows that sanding is the most un-fun part of building the helmet.

8. Did you sand good? Maybe? Well, let's see! Spray primer on the whole helmet. This allows you to see dips in the helmets, plus, it gives the paint a firm base on the helmet. In the picture, look at the dips. Shown here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/25771859@N04/2866032319/in/set-72157605917719865/

9. All you do  now is spray the paint on! Did it turn out looking good? Professional? Amateur? If you want to work more, work more then!

10. Now all you have to do is make the plastic the shape of the slot in the helmet. Then, just tint it, and your done!

I hope you liked this tutorial!
